Starter Motor Control¶
CORE ECU provides a starter motor control feature that automatically turns the starter motor ON when the below conditions are met. The following steps outline the process for configuring and enabling Starter Motor control.
Starter Motor Control VCM Live Setup¶
-
Download the latest version of VCM Live Beta here.
-
Open VCM Live and click the drop down arrow in the group layout tab and select Vehicle.
-
Locate the Starter Motor Fitted parameter and change the value to Yes.
-
Ensure the ignition switch is active and the engine is stalled (not running).
-
Select the Starter Motor tab on the top menu bar and locate Starter Motor Control Lockout Condition parameter and select your desired deactivation method for your starter motor.
The 5 deactivation methods are listed below:
- Brakes Not Active: Deactivates (prohibits) Starter Motor Control if the brake pedal is not pressed.
- Clutch Not Active: Deactivates (prohibits) Starter Motor Control if the clutch pedal is not pressed.
- Not in Park/Neutral: Deactivates (prohibits) Starter Motor Control if the transmission is not in Park or Neutral.
- Condition 1 & 3: Deactivates (prohibits) Starter Motor Control if either the brake pedal is not pressed, or if the transmission is not in park or neutral.
- Condition 2 & 3: Deactivates (prohibits) Starter Motor Control if either the clutch pedal is not pressed, or if the transmission is not in park or neutral.
-
If your vehicle is a Push to Start, locate the Engine Start/Stop Switch Type parameter and change the value to momentary switch.
-
Locate the Engine start Switch Mode parameter and select between single short press or press until start.
-
Locate the Engine Start Switch Engage (Press) Time parameter and select your preferred start time value.
-
Locate the Engine Stop Switch Engage (Press) Time parameter and select your preferred stop time value.
Note
Three fast presses will kill the engine.

Starter Motor Control Tuning Setup¶
Note
Your professional tuner is your first line of support for tuning questions. We strongly recommend having all vehicle calibrations performed by a professional tuner.
Once all of the above conditions are satisfied, the starter motor is energized for each start attempt, which is triggered by the rising edge of the Engine Start Switch Active signal (the engine start/stop switch must be available and assigned correctly).
