Changing a VIN🔗

This article will outline how to change a vehicle VIN using VCM Scanner, with GM supported vehicles.


Requirements🔗

  • Latest version of VCM Suite Beta (Download here)
  • Any MPVI device
  • ECM must be licensed

When to Use This Guide🔗

You can only use this guide if the vehicle you are trying to change the VIN is a GM supported vehicle. To see if it is supported, follow the below steps:

  1. Open VCM Scanner.
  2. Connect your vehicle using a MPVI device via USB.
  3. Click the icon to connect to your vehicle.
  4. On the top menu bar click "Vehicle" > "Controls & Special Functions" > "System" > "Change VIN".
  5. Enter the new VIN and click "OK" (refer to image below).

  6. If your new VIN is accepted, follow the Step-by-Step Instructions below.


Step-by-Step Instructions🔗

Step 1. Once new VIN is accepted, wait 15 seconds.

Step 2. Turn ignition off for 30 seconds.

Step 3. Turn ignition on for 30 seconds.

Step 4. Turn ignition off for 30 seconds.

Step 5. Turn ignition on for 30 seconds.

Note

  • This will allow the new VIN to be programmed. Once you disconnect and reconnect the vehicle in VCM Scanner you will be able to see the new VIN change.
