Recording Data and Saving Logs🔗

VCM Live is capable of recording live data off the ECU and displaying it on various gauges, charts, and lists in real time.

When you are finished recording, you can save your recorded data to a log file for later review and analysis.

Recording Live Data🔗

To do a live recording of ECU data with the current configuration:

  1. Using an Ethernet cable, connect your computer to the ECU.

  2. Open VCM Live.

  3. Turn the vehicle ignition to a position other than OFF. (The engine can be running or stopped. But, the vehicle must supply power to the ECU.)

  4. Click the icon in the toolbar to open a data connection to the ECU.

  5. When VCM Live has finished connecting, click to start recording.

  6. To stop recording, click .

  7. If you want to save the recorded data to a log file, click .

Viewing a Saved Log File🔗

You can load a saved log file for further review of the captured data. To do so:

  1. In the toolbar, click .

  2. Select the desired log file.

  3. Click Open.

  4. Click to begin playback.

The Timeline🔗

When you play back a recorded log file, a timeline representing the entire duration of the file appears at the bottom of the VCM Live window.

Slide Bar🔗

The highlighted area on this timeline indicates the moment you are currently viewing.

The thin white vertical line on the slider bar indicates the exact time index of the data displayed on the time graph subwindows, gauges, and measurement lists. This time index appears in numerical form to the right of the slider bar.

Zooming In and Out🔗

The Zoom In and Zoom Out buttons on the toolbar to zoom in on a shorter time frame or zoom out to display a longer time frame:

Icon Description
Zoom in (show a shorter period of time in more detail).
Zoom out (show a longer period of time in less detail).

If your pointing device has a mouse wheel, you can also roll the mouse wheel backwards and forwards to zoom in and out.

Moving To a Different Time Index🔗

To move to a different time index in the log file playback, do one of the following:

  • Drag and drop the slider to move it right or left.

  • Click on a point in the timeline you want to jump to.
